Treats make life sweeter! Once, when I was still working in a health food shop in London I had nothing sweet for a month, just as an experiment. No fresh or dried fruit, no honey, no fun! Literally, after a few weeks I started feeling as if all colour had been drained out of my life. The first treat I made when breaking my fast was a small cake sweetened with one medjool date. Oh I was flying! And this lovely feeling of joy, or comfort and cosiness, is what I look for in a not-too-sweet treat now. No more guilt and rushes crashes from the addictive carb-laden foods of my earlier food journey, but thankfulness for the sweetness of wholesome ingredients.
