The evening will be a fun and relaxed mix of cooking demo, styling your own bento box and finally eating together!
The bar of De Vrouw met de Baard will be open throughout the evening (drinks not included in the price).

What is a BENTO?
A Bento is a hugely popular style of packed lunch originating from Japan. Mostly home-made, it’s based around rice with a selection of side dishes packed in a box.
Shiso Delicious’ shisobento is a little different. Quick and easy to make, full of vegetables and flavour, it is plant based (vegetarian/vegan), include some raw dishes and are free from dairy and gluten.
If you want to learn how to make easy, affordable and delicious healthy lunches and are interested in Japanese flavours, then this workshop is for you!
Who is Shiso Delicious?
Shiso Delicious, aka Sara Kiyo Popowa is a London-based designer, blogger, food photographer and Instagrammer @shisodelicious. Being half-Japanese, half-Bulgarian, brought up in Sweden and into natural eating since childhood she's come to specialise in east-west plant-based recipes, and hacks to eat healthily and mindfully every day. For the past 3 years Sara has developed a unique style of making bentos on Instagram where some even call her 'Queen of Bento' ;) She's excited to offer this wealth of knowledge and creativity to a real-life audience through workshops. What will I learn at this workshop?
This demo-style workshop is for anyone with an interest in eating healthier and/or Japanese food.
You don’t need to own, or bring, a bento box for this workshop.
Bring a notebook though :)
You will learn:
Basic bento principles, including tools
Basic Japanese ingredients*: Sushi rice, rice noodles, seaweeds, sesame seeds, umesu (salty plum vinegar), rice vinegar and more
Spice blend making
Bento prep hacks
Assembly / styling
*ingredients are easy to source at well-stocked supermarkets and / or health food shops
You will leave the workshop with:
Methods, inspiration and know-how to get started on making your own bentos straight away
A recipe collection (pdf) mailed to you
A shopping list, including where to buy (pdf) mailed to you
There will be some nibbles along the way, and at the end of the workshop we'll sit down together and eat the boxes we have styled with a glass of optional wine!
All recipes are free from dairy and gluten and made from simple fresh ingredients that can be found in most supermarkets.
